About Punta Marenco Eco Lodge:

A family project dedicated to the conservation

Our history: livestock conservation (1970 – now)

The history of Punta Marenco begins in 1970, when Guillermo Miranda, who was then working in cattle ranching in Puerto Jiménez, came to this stretch of coastline and was deeply captivated by its beauty. Guided by a vision that was both bold and ahead of its time, he decided to exchange his ranching lands for these forest and beach areas, with the firm purpose of protecting them.

Since then, together with his wife, Ileana Rodríguez, the family has cared for, defended, and restored this ecosystem with dedication and love. What began as a personal decision became a life project that has spanned generations.

Official recognition as a National Wildlife Refuge

In 1997, the family took a fundamental step by placing the property under the protection of the Government of Costa Rica, officially establishing it as the Punta Río Claro National Wildlife Refuge, a mixed-category reserve. This provided a legal framework to protect the tropical forest, wildlife, and public beaches that make up this area, reinforcing the conservation mission that continues to guide the eco-lodge to this day.

What it means to us today

Those who choose Punta Marenco experience accommodation immersed in nature — disconnected from noise and deeply connected to wildlife. Beyond finding a peaceful place to rest, each guest contributes directly to:

  • The protection of public beaches within the refuge.

  • The conservation of fragile ecosystems in the Osa Peninsula.

  • The preservation of a sustainable and community-based tourism model.

  • The continuity of a family project deeply rooted in Costa Rica.

Whether you come to observe wildlife, explore forest trails, enjoy an eco-experience, or simply relax by the sea, your visit helps ensure that this forest remains a natural sanctuary.

A legacy that continues...

Today, the family continues to lead the eco-lodge guided by the same values that inspired its origins: love for the land, respect for biodiversity, and a genuine commitment to conservation. Above all, Punta Marenco remains a family home that opens its doors to those who wish to experience the Osa Peninsula in an authentic and responsible way.
